Paolina Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon, married into the wealthy
and powerful Borghese family. In this statue she was portrayed
as a Venus Victrix in the neoclassic style of the masterful Italian
sculptor Canova. He was inspired by the composure and grandeur
of the classic works of ancient Greece and Rome. Canova carved
in marble with great dexterity, as is evidenced by the impression
of body weight on the sculptured cushion. This item is imported from Italy. It is the same as that previously available from Eleganza in Seattle. |
